The extra MV7+ connection changes the whole path

The MV6 is USB-only. Connect its USB-C output to a supported computer, select the MV6 as the operating-system input, then select it in Discord. No separate preamp, converter, or audio interface belongs in that path.

The MV7+ provides USB and XLR outputs. USB makes the microphone the computer audio device. XLR sends analog audio to an interface or mixer, which becomes the device selected in Windows and Discord. Shure also documents simultaneous use of the USB and XLR outputs, which is useful only when you actually need two destinations.

Mute, monitoring, and DSP follow the active mode

The MV6 documents a tap-to-mute button, a 3.5 mm headphone output for real-time monitoring, and USB DSP including Auto Level Mode, Digital Popper Stopper, Real-time Denoiser, tone, and a high-pass filter. MOTIV Mix is the desktop control and routing environment for that USB device.

The MV7+ USB path exposes its headphone output, touch-panel controls, and Shure DSP. In XLR mode, the analog signal goes to the interface. Plan mute, gain, processing, conversion, and headphone monitoring at that interface or in the host software because the microphone's USB controls and DSP do not automatically govern the analog output. If USB and XLR are used simultaneously, document which destination owns each mute and monitor action before a live call.

Count the stand before comparing the baskets

The MV6 standard package includes its 12 cm round-base desktop stand and a 1 m USB-C-to-USB-C cable. The base occupies desk space, while the microphone also exposes a 5/8-27 mount if you later move it to a suitable arm.

The listed MV7+ package includes a 3 m USB-C-to-USB-C cable, windscreen, and 5/8-inch-to-3/8-inch thread adapter, but no stand. Add a compatible desk stand or boom arm for USB. Add an XLR cable, suitable interface or mixer, interface host cable, and headphones at the interface when the XLR plan requires monitoring.

1. Choose USB, XLR, or a real two-output workflow.
2. List the stand or arm and verify its thread, load capacity, clamp fit, and clear movement path.
3. For XLR, list the interface, XLR cable, host cable, headphones, and the exact mute and monitor controls you will use.

Keep compatibility and sound claims bounded

Shure lists the MV6 for most Windows and macOS computers. The MV7+ lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later for its desktop path. When using XLR, your interface must also support the computer and the chat app; the microphone alone does not establish that host connection.

Both product documents contain manufacturer sound and noise-reduction claims. GamingMics has not performed controlled listening tests, so neither microphone is declared better for voice, keyboard noise, fan noise, or room rejection. Console chat support also remains unknown for both models.
