Can you use a mic on the original Switch?
Only in games that build voice chat in, such as Fortnite, with a wired headset in the console's 3.5 mm jack. The original Switch has no system-wide party chat; other games use the Nintendo Switch Online phone app for voice. A USB desk mic isn't a Switch chat path.
Ways to get your voice into original Switch chat
Headset in the console
For games with built-in voice chat, a wired headset in the 3.5 mm jack carries your voice.
Nintendo Switch Online app
For games that use it, voice chat runs on your phone, so the phone's mic or headset is the one that matters.
- No system voice chat: every game handles chat its own way.
- Docked, the jack is on the console itself, so you need a long headset cable or to play near it.
Every model on original Switch
Supported means the maker states this console for that connection. Not confirmed means the maker says nothing either way. Select a model for its full setup.
